I want to share a few of the new sumi-e I am working on. For such simple pieces, it takes a surprising

amount of time to prepare for presentation…
My works are each based on a quotation, a piece of music, a line of prose, or some source of inspiration, prior to painting.
This one is based on the following quote:
“When the short day is brightest, with frost and fire,
The brief sun flames the ice, on pond and ditches…
Midwinter spring is its own season…
from “Little Gidding” by T.S. Eliot
The next one is on a very gentle note:

“The Uncertain Hour before Morning” sumi-e 14″ x 18″ on rice paper by Marilyn Wells, unmounted
“In the uncertain hour before the morning, Near the ending of the interminable night…”
from “Little Gidding” by T. S. Eliot
The third one is also from the same poet.

“Words Move, Music Moves” sumi-e by Marilyn Wells, 14″ x 18″, on rice paper, unmounted
“Words move, Music moves
Only in time; but that which is only living
Can only die. Words, after speech, reach Into the silence.”
T.S. Eliot, “Burnt Norton”
The images and quotes speak for themselves. I hope you take a moment to let them speak to you as they have spoken to me that I might share with you.
Please give me some comments and tell me your thoughts and reactions to the new images. I love to hear from you!
